Journalist, editor and producer covering society, business, architecture, tourism, rural regeneration, conservation. USA, Spain, Costa Rica video compilation from the archives. With normal travel freedoms restricted, multimedia content shot on the road has the power to transport us like nothing else.
I’ve never been keen on pictures of influencers doing yoga in designated beautiful places at sunset, and now more than ever I’m missing what makes travel surprising, heartening, exciting, moving and memorable: people. I miss spending time in places that aren’t prescribed destinations so much as the spaces in which other people or other things live. And travelling through places and finding the extraordinary in the ordinary – foreign supermarkets, local channels on the car radio, signs, daily life in US cities and birdsong in Costa Rican jungles. I like travel that isn’t planned or perfect and I’m looking forward to setting off again. The major USA road trip was back in 2012 / 2013, but posts, copious photo galleries and videos can be found here on the Somewheresville blog.
Full-length documentaries: Panda Makers, BBC Natural World (producer, writer, co-director); Wild Places of Essex, BBC Natural World (exec producer, AGB Films); Hyena Men, C5 (exec producer, AGB Films).
Collaborations in Spain: I work with documentary companies from Tin Can to Lonely Planet on a wide range of projects. Get in touch by email or via Worldfixer, a jolly good resource for finding local fixers, producers, directors and logistic support.
