And a lovely look at laid-back, balmy Puerto Viejo and all points south.

I recommend visiting Arenal volcano, because it’s not often you can lie in a hot river, or enjoy a cold beer with a view of a perfect cone right there in front of you, and the area is buzzing, but Rincon de la Vieja is my favourite, plus the multiple craters puff and bubble in the heart of Costa Rica’s cowboy country.
