san rafaelTen reminders that the best travel experience are often the cheapest (luckily), just as long as you’re not in a hurry. I recommended the Sabalito border crossing, Costa Rica to Panama (although the map here shows a random road petering out at one of the ubiquitous San Rafaels), a route that involves an old US school bus, waiting for the border official to finish lunch, a trip through nowhere-in-particular settlements of wooden houses painted turquoise & wreathed in orchids, where life is slow . . like the transport.
